Hello fellow readers, book lovers, and everyone else reading this—I’m Emily at Midnight; Welcome to my blog!
You might know me from my YouTube channel: Emily at Midnight where I post videos about all things books. I make book reviews, chat about the publishing world, compare books to movies, read and break down whole fantasy series, etc. I’m also a sci-fi/fantasy editor.
Why Books?
I had a love of literature instilled in me from a young age (starting as early as three years old) by my mom, who would read books to me like Little Women, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, A Girl of the Limberlost, A Tale of Two Cities, and Great Expectations.
As I grew older and could read on my own, I consumed coming–of–age books and middle grade fantasy at a breakneck pace. I loved the experience of stepping into a brand–new life and watching through the main character’s eyes as they overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
Literature as a Lifestyle
This love of literature grew and matured as I did, and I found myself gravitating toward literature in college, as well, and I completed a degree in editing and publishing. As I shifted to reading books (and editing them) as a career, I realized that as an editor I spend a lot of time on a book and am able to give a lot of feedback, but I miss the discussing and chattering about books in a more laid back setting, and I started immediately searching for ways to add back in the more casual fun of reading. And that’s how I landed on starting a YouTube channel where I discuss books and bookish topics.
What to Expect from This Blog
This blog is going to be a place to talk about topics that get cut from my filming schedule or didn’t make sense to be a video, and also diving deeper into the topics I cover in my videos including behind–the–scenes of videos.
I look forward to getting to know you all through comments, so feel free to leave comments on any of my posts and start discussions!
